LiveUpdate don't register System Recovery 2013

I need a solution

When I try a LiveUpdate session, System Recovery 2013 don't appear (see the image below)

I know the use of LUreg to register the product in a LiveUpdate session.

For SSR 2011, the command is

LUReg.exe -REG -PDD "Symantec System Recovery 2011" -PDN "Symantec System Recovery 2011" -PDV "10.0.0.39952" -PDL "ENGLISH" -PDM "{70731099-3501-40B3-BF96-757371640003}"

But I don't know the command for the version 2013... Where can I find the PDM number for the 2013 version ?

Thank's.

Backup a system preserved partition only (Cannot restore a bootable Windows)

I need a solution

I use SSR 2011 to backup a full C (Windows Sever 2008 R2) on an IBM x3650 server.

Currently I need to restore the server to another server with a certain snaphot (say, snapshot on August 1) for testing. After restoring, however, it is not bootable.

I read this article:

http://www.symantec.com/business/support/index?page=content&id=TECH129112,

and found I may not (didn't) include the System Reserved Partition (non-EFI system) or EFI System Partition (EFI-enabled system), mentioned in the article, in the backup job.

So how should I do now?

Can I only backup a System Reserved Partition and then restore it (and how to do it)? Or should I do full system backup (including System Reserved Partition), and restroe the reserved partition.

What I am concerned here is I need to restore a certain snapshot, not the newest one. So, I need to make sure I will not restore the newest snapshot if I use the lastest backup (with reserved partition).

Thanks for any help in advacne.

Converting Norton Ghost 15.0 to SSR 2013

I need a solution

We have recently received notification that Norton Ghost has been discontinued and consequently a free 60-day trial of SSR 2013 is being offered. It clearly states that Ghost must first be uninstalled, but nowhere is there any up front statement of "backward compatibility". The 309 page SSR 2013 User's Guide does not have the word "ghost" in the text. The absence, in your message to Norton Ghost users, of any reference to backward compatibility suggests that the two products are completely different. After all, if there was a simple conversion path, I am sure your marketing people would have made a clear, bold statement about this in trying to retain Norton Ghost users.

Our assumption, therefore, is that SSR is not 100% backward compatible; and therefore we should be advising clients NOT to uninstall Norton Ghost, NOT to install the new SSR 2013, BUT to switch to Acronis True Image instead.

Is our assumption a reasonable one? If not, where is the documentation about transition and conversion from Ghost to SSR? Obviously we are not going to risk our reputation or damage to clients based on casual and possibly ambiguous comments in a forum. At the very least, we would expect to see an officially documented Symantec technical statement about backward compatibility, transition, conversion tools, etc.

Errors EC8F17B7 & EBAB03F9

I need a solution

We have a SBS 2011 Server with SSR 2013 installed. We did a P2V conversion to a VMware ESXi 5.1 host using SSR 2013 - worked just fine. Now our SBS 2013 is virtualised, however, SSR 2013 no longer works. 2 hidden partitions & 3 normal windows partitions.

When we try a normal backup, it fails within seconds with an error EC8F17B7: Cannot create recovery points. Along with Error EBAB03F9: A check that safeguards the integrity of the program failed unexpectedly. 'PRECONDITION failed, LocalProgress::LocalProgress: LocalProgrress.cpp(56): estimate.mUnits >=0.'. (UMI:V-281-3215-6071)

We then tried a backup with the "ignore CRC errors" checked, this ran until about 94% and then frooze with an error EC8F17B7: Cannot create recovery points. Along with 'Error E0BB00B5: Snapshot error Error EBAB03F1: Following Operating System error occurred while performing requested operation: 'OS error 2147754760.'. (UMI:V-281-3215-6071)'.

Any ideas what the problem could be?

Thanks, Oliver

Updating using Mangement Console

I need a solution

So I have the Symantec Management Platform complete with the client management solution and the System Recovery plugin.

Lately I've been having some issues with servers failing to backup and in researching I've discovered that it is fixed in the 2013 sp1 update.

I jump on my Symantec server and download the update using the Install Manager. Then I go to try and upgrade the server client software and there are no options to deploy the updates... How do I deploy the service pack to existing computers? I have the software on the Symantec server but I see no way to deploy the update.

Also how would I go about upgrading from say 2011 to 2013 using the management solution?

I do not need a solution (just sharing information)

 Hello,

We had an internal issue with synchronization between two systems which caused Symantec System Recovery Server Edition to be removed from the product listing as well as the Support page and several KB articles for SSR Server Edition being inaccessible.  The issue has been identified and IT is working on the fix.  Until service is restored, please continue to post your questions on Symantec Connect or contact technical support.

Thank You!

I do not need a solution (just sharing information)

Hello!

The Symantec System Recovery and Experience Design team is inviting you to get involved in shaping the product.

The purpose of this study is to gain insights from our customers and partners, and get their feedback on the creation of System Recovery Disk (SRD) in their environments. We are looking for customers who have experience using 2013, 2011 versions of SSR or customers of Norton Ghost.

Here are the details of the study

  • During the remote 90 minute session, you would walk through few tasks using a build offering your feedback along the way
  • You will interact with the team designing the product
  • As thanks for participation, we will offer you a $110 gift card redeemable at a host of online vendors.  Please inform in advance if this is not permissible by your company policy.

To participate, you need

  • A willingness to share your constructive feedback
  • A telephone and an internet connection
  • To fill out a Usability Agreement for informed consent and non-disclosure purposes since we will be sharing confidential ideas that are still in design

If you are interested in participating in a usability session, please check out the session dates I have for you:

SSR Clients take 24 hours for receiving license

I need a solution

We are currently Using Symantec System recovery 2013 with symantec management console 7.1

This server is recently installed on a Windows 2008 R2 64 bit OS.

We are using Sysmantec System Recovery 2013 Management Solution to monitor our backup policy's and licenses.

Here's the problem:
Everything works fine, licenses and backup schedules are pushed to the clients.

However after installing a new client it takes about 24 hours before the license is pushed, we've enabled the client license eand the server license under the configuration policies.

On the clients the symantec management agent has been installed and Symantec System Recovery 2013 has been installed.

I've started the ssr agent and updated the configuration and i have sent a basic inventory. it says the configuraion has been changed.

However no license installed, if i leave the pc alone and wait for about 24 hours then everything works fine.

Anyone who has a solution on how to fix this?

SSR 2013 & Live Update LU1803 error

I need a solution

i have successfully installed SSR 2013 - prior Ghost 15 user.  i need help getting live update to work for SSR 2013.

i am receiving LU1803 error / failure message when trying to execute LU for SSR 2013.

i also have NIS installed.  this includes live update, which works just fine.

i have tried all of the posted fixes for LU, that i could find, there may be more, with NO success in fixing the LU1803 error / failure for SSR 2013.  at least LU still works for NIS, which is more important to me than SSR.

i think that there is some type of internal conflict within Live Update between the 'Symantec' side and the 'Norton' side.

Before installing SSR 2013, all of my Norton products that had live update worked together.

what's next to try to get this issue with Live Update resolved ??

thanks

Image and restore Dell Laptop with proprietary partition(s)

I need a solution

I have seen many websites and posts in many forums about all the problems you can have trying to image and restore a dell laptop wtih those hidden partitions.  I believe one is usually for restore purposes and the other for media direct.

But what I have not seen is how to do the following.  Create an image with SSR of an old hard drive, put in a new hard drive, and restore it without having issues!

Everything I have read is how you dig yourself out of the hole once you are having problems.

Is there a painless way to do this with SSR 2013?  I really do not care if the new drive has the system recovery partition or media direct partition.

But I do want it to boot to windows and I want the full capacity of the larger hard drive.

Thanks,

BJB

Help booting Symantec Rescue Disk - not enough memory to create ramdisk device

I need a solution

I use Ghost 15 and it usually works great (I run Ghost recovery off a bootable grub4dos usb stick). I recently performed a cold backup of a PC using the Ghost 15 recovery environment. When restoring the backup from the Ghost recovery environment to the same PC, as the restore was 99% completed, I was prompted to enter an additional disk. Of course, I didn't have the disk the restore process was looking for and the restore process returned an error and did not successfully complete.

I understand that this is a bug in Ghost 15 and that the restore process somehow thinks I'm restoring to a different machine and is looking for files from Symantec's PC Anywhere. So I did as has been suggested in this forum and downloaded the Symantec Rescue Disk that comes with Symantec System Restore 2013. I copied the 32-bit ISO to my USB stick and created the following entry in menu.lst:

# Symantec System Recovery - Symantec Recovery Disk
title Symantec Recovery Disk
find --set-root /ISO/SSR11.0.1.47662_AllWin_English_SrdOnly.iso
map /ISO/SSR11.0.1.47662_AllWin_English_SrdOnly.iso (hd32)
map --hook
root (hd32)
chainloader (hd32)

The iso is contiguous on the USB stick. When launching, I immediately receive the following error message:

"There isn't enough memory available to create a ramdisk device." Error code is 0xc0000017

The system in question has 512MB of memory. I am able to boot the Ghost 15 ISO from the same USB stick and it's larger at 394MB while the SRD ISO is 381MB.

Any suggestions?

Symantec System Recovery 2013 Desktop Edition

I need a solution

Hi

We have purchased 70 Licences of SSR 2013 for Desktop Edition

We are having many queries regarding the SSR 2013 which are not resolved hence we are requesting symantec Developers to do some enhancement with this product

The queries are given as

1) We are not able to manage or schedule the File and Folder Level backup from the Management Console remotely however we are able to manage it independently on every system. It is taking lot of time to visit every user for the File and folder level backup for administrator

2) There is no scheduling of incremental backup  As per schedule given it is taking the full backup of specified folders and files on everyday.we want on every monday it will take full backup and on all others day it will take incremental backup because full backup is talking more time to be backed up resulting in the performance issue of the user system.Generally Incremental backup will take less time as compare to full backup.

3)When the files are opened or in use it will not backup that file and generate error and stop the backup at that point  or you can say it will not backup the files in use or opened while backup is going on or in progress

Overall we have no use of this product because it is not serving our file and folder level backup requirements.

Hence We are requesting symantec development team to accept the enhancement request of this product SSR 2013 for Desktop edition at File and Folder level.

Your quick response is highly appreciated on this issue

SSR 2013 Desktop Installation Errors

I need a solution

I am working on replacing my Norton Ghost 15.0 with SSR 2013 Desktop and have run into an issue following the install of SSR 2013 Desktop.  The user guide says that following the application install I need to reboot my computer and then following the login there will be Post Install Setup Wizard that will run and allow me to configure my system for System backups.

I have installed the prgram twice and have yet to get this Setup Wizard to actually open up and run.  Even from the SSR Monitor app, it shows my connected drive and pc but the Connect To Console function is greyed out and doesn't work.

Does any one have any ideas what is going on?  I am installing this on a Windows 7 Pro X64 system.

I need a solution

Hi,

I have several remote Server each with BESR 8/8.5 or 2010 installed being managed by a central console - BESR 2010 MS.

The clients are backing fine as per their schedules but they are not accurately (or indeed at all) to the console.

I have restarted the Altiris Agent and BE Services on each client, this works for some but it is temporary.

Has anyone come across this, if so what is the answer?
